A film still from Praying with LiorThe UK Jewish Film Festival (UKJFF) is in Leeds from 20th February with its biggest programme of films to date.

The UKJFF national tour heads to Leeds this month (20th February to 6th March) with an eclectic programme of films showing at the MAZCC, Seven Artspace in Chapel Allerton, Cottage Road Cinema and Northern Film School-Electric Press. It’s Leeds’ biggest programme of films ever from the festival, which is held annually in London during November and tours nationally from the end of January until April.

“Leeds is really important to the festival. Outside of London, Leeds and Manchester are the major touring destinations and are where we take a substantial programme of films. This year will see the biggest programme in Leeds to date,” says Michael Etherton, Festival Producer.

There will be 11 films showing in Leeds, including the award-winning A Matter of Size, an Israeli comedy featuring slimming and sumo wrestling; Praying with Lior, an award-winning documentary, which poses the question of whether someone with Downs Syndrome can be a spiritual genius; Dancing Alfonso, a joyous film about love, life and dancing; and Adam Resurrected, based on an account of Holocaust survival and featuring an international cast.

A masterclass in short filmmaking will also take place on 24th February at the Northern Film School. The session will feature guest speaker Raphael Smith, a scriptwriter whose short film Sidney Turtlebaum has been shortlisted for the Oscars 2010. Entrance is free but places must be reserved in advance by calling 020 3176 0048.
