A large group shot of the dancersThe inaugural Dancing Strictly event is shaping up to be an evening of dazzling dance moves. JLife reports.

On 14th March competitors will move to the music and take to the dance floor for the first ever Dancing Strictly event, which will be held at The Grammar School at Leeds. The event is a twist on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing format and its aim is to raise funds for six community organisations.

Dancing Strictly is expected to raise thousands of pounds for The Zone, Breast Cancer Haven, the B-ICC, Donisthorpe Hall, the LJWB and Brodetsky Primary School, with ticket sales and sponsorship money raised by the competitors going towards the organisations.

After two dance classes led by teachers from Dance Ceroc Yorkshire - a type of dance that fuses salsa, ballroom, hip hop, tango and jive - participating dancers were selected for individual and group dances at a workshop held in January at the MAZCC. Volunteers, made up of five men and five women, will partner with accomplished dancers and will perform before a panel of judges. Dancers have also been selected for the group routine, which will open the event. Two male dancers are still required.

Participants will undergo intense training sessions in order to perfect their moves. Jane Clynes, the event’s organiser, said: “Dancing Strictly is on track for being an exciting evening filled with high energy dances and first class performances. What began as a simple idea has become a full-blown event encompassing Dance Ceroc, the sponsors and the volunteers.

“The enthusiasm from all of the volunteers has been overwhelming. Even the snow didn’t stop them from making the first dance session, which proved their commitment to the event. The camaraderie between them all is fantastic.”

If you are a male member of the community and would like to take part in the group performance, or if you require tickets for Dancing Strictly, contact Jane Clynes on 07703 271238. Visit www.dancing-strictly.co.uk.
